Major Ramaswamy Parmeswaran: The Tale of Operation Pawan
In the year Nineteen Eighty-Seven, Sri Lanka, Jaffna region - The Indian Army, under "Operation Pawan," was engaged in combat with LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) militants, with the objective of restoring peace. Major Ramaswamy Parmeswaran, a brave officer of the Indian Army's Mahar Regiment, was on patrol with his squad in enemy territory.
The night was dark, and there was deep silence in the jungle. Suddenly, the enemy ambushed them. The sharp sound of gunfire shattered the stillness. The enemy was numerous and equipped with better weapons, but Major Parmeswaran did not lose courage.
He immediately positioned his squad in a defensive stance and decided to encircle the enemy strategically. Moving ahead himself, he launched a fierce counterattack on the enemy. In the meantime, a militant attacked from behind, severely injuring him.
Despite being wounded, Major Parmeswaran continued to lead his squad. He destroyed the enemy's main weapon depot and defeated the militants. His wisdom and bravery ensured the success of the mission.
Unfortunately, after the battle, Major Parmeswaran succumbed to his injuries. His bravery and sacrifice were never forgotten by the Indian Army. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest bravery award of the Indian Army.
Today, his name is immortalized in the valorous stories of the Indian Army.
