Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar: The Tale of Valor in the Kargil War
In 1999, during the Kargil War, a fierce conflict broke out between India and Pakistan. The Indian Army was tasked with reclaiming strategically important mountain areas that had been captured by Pakistani soldiers. In this mission, Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar etched his name in history with his unmatched bravery.
At that time, Sanjay Kumar was posted in the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Regiment. In July 1999, he was given the order to attack a dangerous bunker that had been fortified by Pakistani soldiers. As the Indian soldiers advanced towards the bunker, the enemy unleashed heavy gunfire. Sanjay Kumar, along with his unit, took a daring decision to break through the enemy's siege.
Sanjay Kumar began advancing towards the enemy bunker alone. On his way, he faced the enemy's gunfire, but he did not stop. Reaching the bunker, he single-handedly eliminated the enemy soldiers. During this, he was shot multiple times, but he did not give up. He destroyed the enemy bunker and secured the strategic position for the Indian Army.
For his extraordinary bravery, Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor. His courage and sacrifice have become an inspiration for every soldier in the Indian Army.
"Salute to such brave sons of the nation. Jai Hind."
