Border Lion: Fighting Death, Living for the Nation
Why did the sands of the Thar Desert turn red with blood that night?
It was a dark night. On the Rajasthan border, only the whistling of the desert winds could be heard. Suddenly, news reached the BSF post — an enemy unit was trying to cross the border.
Amidst the sand, in an area surrounded by landmines and barbed wire, stood Subedar Arjun Singh with his men. Without a moment’s delay, he positioned his team on the front line. Every soldier’s eyes searched the darkness for the slightest enemy movement.
Then, the sound of gunfire erupted. Bullets rained down, and clouds of sand rose into the night. On one side was the calm moonlight, on the other, a storm of bullets. Arjun Singh roared — “Strike back! This is our land, and not a single step of the enemy should advance here!”
The soldiers encircled the infiltrators from all directions. But in the fierce battle, Arjun Singh was gravely injured. Even as blood drenched his uniform, he lifted his rifle and fought till his very last breath.
When dawn broke, dozens of enemy bodies lay scattered across the sands, and Arjun Singh had attained immortality, wrapped in the Indian tricolor. His sacrifice proved that whether it is the icy mountains or the scorching desert, Indian soldiers stand fearless on every front.
A heartfelt salute to such brave sons of the soil. Jai Hind.
