📞 The Call at 12:47 AM

The phone rang at exactly 12:47 a.m.

Rain had been tapping against the apartment windows for hours, slow and deliberate, as though the night itself was knocking. Arjun had not been expecting any calls. His phone lay face-down on the desk beside a half-empty coffee mug and a stack of unsolved case notes from his freelance investigation work.

The screen flashed: No Caller ID.

He hesitated before answering.

“Hello?”

Only breathing replied.

⚠️ A Voice Without a Name

“If you leave your apartment in the next ten minutes,” the distorted voice whispered, “you will stay alive.”

The call disconnected.

Arjun stared at the screen, pulse hammering. The city outside glowed faintly through the rain-blurred glass, streetlights stretched into long golden smears. He checked the hallway camera feed on his laptop—empty.

Another message vibrated onto his phone.

DON’T PACK. DON’T CALL ANYONE. JUST GO.

His instincts screamed that it was a prank. But instincts had saved him before.

🕵️ Following the Clues

Arjun slipped on his jacket and pocketed a small recorder. The elevator ride down felt endless, each floor lighting up in slow sequence like a countdown.

Outside, the rain smelled metallic.

A final text arrived:

Stand beneath the broken streetlight.

The lamp across the road flickered violently.

He crossed the street, every shadow stretching too long.

Something lay taped to the pole.

A folded note.

Three words were written in hurried ink:

YOU WERE FOLLOWED.

👁 Someone Was Watching

Arjun spun around.

No footsteps.

No cars.

Only rain.

His phone rang again.

“You live on the third floor,” the voice said calmly. “Corner apartment. Balcony facing west.”

Cold crept up his spine.

“Who are you?”

“Someone who checked your security camera thirty seconds ago.”

Arjun opened his laptop remotely.

The feed showed his apartment door slowly opening.

🧩 The Hidden Truth

“You installed your own trap,” the voice continued. “Three years ago. After the Narayan case.”

Arjun froze.

No one knew that file existed.

“You hid evidence. Tonight, someone else found it.”

A memory resurfaced—corrupted drives, deleted files, one witness who vanished.

“You’re lying.”

“Check your cloud backup,” the caller replied.

Arjun did.

A folder had appeared:

MIDNIGHT.

Inside was video footage of him planting a recording device in a suspect’s home… illegally.

🔴 The Final Revelation

“You didn’t call to save me,” Arjun said slowly.

Silence.

“You called to move me.”

The voice finally chuckled.

“Correct.”

Police sirens wailed in the distance.

“The anonymous tip traced to this location,” the caller said. “Your location.”

Arjun’s phone vibrated again.

INCOMING — CITY POLICE.

“You framed me,” he whispered.

“No,” the voice replied. “I let the truth arrive faster.”

🌙 After Midnight

Red and blue lights painted the rain-soaked road.

Arjun dropped the phone.

Across the street, inside a dark café window, someone raised a cup in a silent toast… then disappeared into the crowd.

The recorder in Arjun’s pocket blinked.

It was still recording.

Midnight had not saved him.

It had exposed him.
