In 2008, Mumbai faced a devastating terrorist attack. Iconic landmarks like the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, and Nariman House were under siege, shaking the entire nation. Hundreds of civilians were taken hostage at the Taj Hotel. In this critical situation, the National Security Guard (NSG) was called in. Leading the team was Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, whose primary goal was to save innocent lives.

Major Sandeep meticulously planned the operation and sent his team inside the hotel. He instructed his teammates to focus on rescuing the hostages while he diverted the terrorists' attention. In the dark corridors and rooms of the Taj Hotel, danger loomed at every step.

While rescuing a hostage, Major Sandeep was critically injured by terrorist gunfire. Despite his severe injuries, he ensured his team had enough time to secure the hostages. His final words echoed, "No harm should come to my men." Ultimately, he sacrificed his life for the nation.

His bravery and sacrifice left an indelible mark on the country. He was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.

"Salute to such brave sons of India. Jai Hind."
