During the Indo-Pak war of 1971, Pakistan launched an attack on the Indian Army. The responsibility to counter this assault was assigned to Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who had joined the army just sixty-one days earlier. His unit received an urgent message about a large convoy of enemy tanks crossing the border.

Second Lieutenant Khetarpal, along with his unit, reached the battlefield, surrounded by enemy tanks. Using his sharp instincts, he launched a fierce attack, destroying several enemy tanks. However, a secret message surfaced, revealing that the enemy had obtained critical information about their mission.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Second Lieutenant Khetarpal drove his tank into the enemy formation, confusing them with his bold maneuver. He fought valiantly until the very end, but his tank was eventually targeted and destroyed by enemy forces.

Later, it was discovered that the enemy had received insider information from an Indian soldier. However, thanks to Second Lieutenant Khetarpal's supreme sacrifice, the traitor was apprehended.

Posthumously, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honor. Yet, the identity of the traitor and how Khetarpal suspected the betrayal remains a mystery to this day.
